Photographer's Note

I was having a look through some of the pictures I took in the Lake District on New Years Day, and I came across this that I had missed the first time.

More recently I have been processing my photos a little differently. I have been reducing the exposure a little, which although makes the picture is darker I think it gives the landscape a more brooding atmosphere.

This a picture of Catsty Cam from the summit of Helvellyn from the first time I saw snow there at the beginning of the year. My more recent pictures taken over the last few weekends are all from the same place and you can see there has been a lot more snow up there.

As I drove home to Lancaster a few minutes ago, I get a panoramic view of the whole of the Lake District and there looks to be even more snow than there was at the weekend. The wind is bitingly cold and my hands are only just thawing out after taking some pictures.

I can also see the Howgills from here, the high fells of Yorkshire, and they are also snow capped this evening. Everywhere you look a hill with a white top peeps over the fells. I think I shall miss the winter come summer.
