Photographer's Note

Deprivation in seaside towns - Levels of deprivation in the largest seaside destinations in England have been highlighted in an analysis from the Office for National Statistics, based on the official indices of deprivation. It says the largest resorts, such as Blackpool, generally have greater levels of deprivation than the rest of England. (Source: poverty.ac.uk) - Despite the UK seaside appearing to be an attractive replacement for an overseas holiday in 2021, a look behind the recently swept and painted seafront can reveal a different image. Modernization and renovation of streets can be overlooked in favour of putting on a painted Seafront. The question I have for you, if you didn't know this was taken in 2021, what year would you think it was? Despite these some of these areas having large amounts of council neglect, what you tend to find are large amounts of community spirit & co-operation. The large cities may have the money spent on them but its the small communities that can be far richer in community spirit.
