Photographer's Note

Hello Everyone,

I wonder what TE members will think of this, it shows a modern response next to a very ancient one!

The modern response is the planting of many trees in an attempt to combat climate change.

The ancient response was a very unusual vaccary wall, to contain the cows grazing the pasture.

(Vaccaries were 13th century, small scale commercial cattle farms the big, stone-slab walls that kept the cattle enclosed were called vaccary walls. The word comes from the mediaeval Latin vaccaria, derived from vacca, a cow.)

Vaccary walls are found in a few places round where I live but are not common elsewhere.

Another slightly different view in my workshop.

Have a good day, Bev :-)
