Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
My previous photograph showed part of the Neolithic, stone circle at Avebury.
This is a follow-on photograph. I loved the shape of this old barn but I was also eager to give an impression of the size of Avebury stone circle. The barn, is an old building, not as old as the stone in the b/g, which is one of those belonging to the stone circles. The site is so large, that it has buildings, which have been built within its site.
PLEASE, open the workshop where you will see another remarkable feature from this ancient site in Wiltshire.
Also, look at the link which I posted last time, if you wish to learn more about Avebury.
Have a lovely day, Bev :-)

Hi Bev,the fact that there are houses on this site shows how extensive it is. It is also beautiful to look at, a reminder of the agricultural past of this area. The WS hill, on the other hand, remains a mystery but is really ugly, it reminds a little of the Monte Stella in Milan, built with the rubble of the city after the Second World War. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Bev,
This is certainly the best photo, but I am even more stunned by the WS. I must blushingly admit that I had never heard of Silbury Hill. I'm amazed to see such an old, artificial mound. How on earth did they manage to create it? It reminds me of Glastonbury Tor, although that legendary hill is natural. But back to the main photo: the barn is really pretty and the photo is well composed with the gate in the foreground, the large tree behind it and the big stone further back reminding us of the location. Colours and light are wonderful.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Beverley,
I found the stones-circle very easily on Google-Map at 51.43, -1.853 and went for a virtual tour in this small village. Intriguing enough was the fact that the circle is so big, made a surround "stroll" but could not find the mound you showed on the WS. Yet, the whole area seems to have lot of small mpounds on the roadsides, and maybe yet to be excavated in future. The barn found at 51.42886, -1.85337 precisely on the map near "Fishlock's Cottage". Simply beautiful.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hi Bev,
The fence and the tree are framing well the barn. The point of view is showing the details of the old barn. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley,
Such an excellent and well-composed photo here, I like how the old barn is very well placed between the two stones on either side of the gate. The large tree and one of the stone in the stone circle are also perfectly included to the left of the barn. It was a lovely and sun day as well.

Hi Bev
A good contrasting pair. I have seen photos of the mound previously. The main one is a good photo of that intersection between antiquity and practical use and is excellent in the large version.
cheers

Hello Bev, A nice old stone barn, I like such thatched roofs very much but more interesting for me is the Workshop picture with this artificial hill. I made a virtual walk in the area and the radius of the circle is indeed very big.
Best regards Malgo
have you heard about the supposed pyramid in Bosnia?

Hi Bev,
great series of photos which raise our interest in this site, a place I have never heard about before.
Charming rural composition with the traditionally built barn.
It must be an interesting feeling to live near such an extraordinary spot. I wonder whether these are descendants of the same people who built the mound. May be they keep the secret from one generation to another :)
Great reportage,
M

Hi Bev,
The tumulus in the workshop reminds me of 3 large Viking grave mounds outside Gamla Upsala in Sweden. A nice rustic scene and I can't help but wonder if the stones on the front gate have been recycled? The sheep and other animals animate the scene. Tfs!

Hello Beverley,
The Silbury Hill phenomenon is very curious.
Such a huge work that required 4 million man hours and that for the time in which the hill was built.
My first idea was that it was the result of the accumulation of rock waste as a byproduct of underground mining. Apparently not but I had never heard of it before.
The main picture has something funny, as it were. We can see the barn of a farmer and his sheep in the meadow. And behind that meadow we find such a huge stone belonging to the cultural heritage of the region. Unfortunately, little is known about that civilisation.
Best regards, Paul
