Photographer's Note

The weather in Briain just now is awful with strong winds and heavy rain and sleet but I found this picture which reminded me of summertime.

This one was taken in August whilst walking near Rydal Water in Cumbria on a beautiful warm and balmy summer's day. I spotted this damselfly flitting around in the grass and just managed to capture this shot. Unfortunately I didn't have a macro lens with me so this was taken at the closest my 24-70mm lens would focus.

I believe that this is a common bluetail damselfly. Damselflies (suborder Zygoptera) are insects in the order Odonata. They are similar to dragonflies but the adults can be distinguished because the wings of most damselflies are held along, and parallel to, the body when at rest.
