Photographer's Note
Another from my shoot at Dungeness on the weekend. The storm and rain had passed by this stage , the sun had set behind me and the sky was still full of cloud and reflecting a soft subdued light. The environment , whilst photographically pure fun is filled with all manner of debris including old fishing nets, abandoned huts, old rusting machinery and hoists. I intend going back for another try as I really only got to play in about a 200 metre area . I would suggest wearing sturdy shoes as the pebbles are tricky walking and as I said who knows what other dangers are strewn around the ground. Take care not to trip as there are loose metal cables lying around and if you intend waiting for blue hour, a flash light to get back to the car safely would be a sensible choice.
I made use again of several NDG filters here.
More about Dungeness from Wikipedia
Dungeness is one of the largest expanses of shingle in the world[citation needed]. It is of international conservation importance for its geomorphology, plant and invertebrate communities and birdlife. This is recognised and protected mostly through its conservation designations as a National Nature Reserve (NNR), a Special Protection Area (SPA), a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and part of the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) of Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay.
There is a remarkable variety of wildlife living at Dungeness, with over 600 different types of plant: a third of all those found in Britain. It is one of the best places in Britain to find insects such as moths, bees and beetles, and spiders; many of these are very rare, some found nowhere else in Britain.
The short-haired bumblebee, Bombus subterraneus, was last found in the UK in 1988, but has survived in New Zealand after being shipped there more than 100 years ago. It is to be reintroduced at Dungeness. It is planned that the first bees will be introduced in the spring of 2010[out of date].
The flooded gravel pits on Denge Beach, both brackish and fresh water, provide an important refuge for many migratory and coastal bird species. The RSPB has a bird sanctuary there and every year thousands of bird watchers descend on the peninsula to catch a glimpse of a rare bird from the bird observatory.
One of the most remarkable features of the site is an area known as 'the patch' or, by anglers, as 'the boil'. The waste hot water and sewage from the Dungeness nuclear power stations are pumped into the sea through two outfall pipes, enriching the biological productivity of the sea bed and attracting seabirds from miles around.

Hi Kathryn !
Lovely colours, the ground/beach and the sky/clouds match so well. Also the green and blue nets on both sides of the "basket like" boat give extra hue into the whole frame. Very good pov, though wish, I could see a bit more of the sea surface. Congratulation !!!

Hello Kathryn,
whilst not having the over all impact of your previous upload this shot of the abandoned boat is well composed and the sky most interesting.
Kind regards Les.

Hello Kathryn - This may seem strange but I actually prefer this shot to your previous upload. The composition is not constrained by working around the full bow of the rainbow and the placement of the elements within the frame gives the image a more pleasing balance. Excellent work and such fine colours. Have a lovely evening Rosemary

Hi Kathryn,
That sky is fantastic. The colour is soft and it has such unusual lighting. It makes a brilliant backdrop to that boat, which is an excellent subject. I love the leading lines from the bottom right too. Class shot, thanks
All the best

Kia ora Kathryn,
Old boats always make great subjects & this is no exception. The lighting is good & highlights a vessel that obviously has seen better days. Cheers, Neil

hello Kathryn,
very nice the view as the presentation of the mauve scenery with the wooden boat to be on the ground and in the right place in the frame.I like the good use of the NDG filters as the excellent result from this experimentation.
Have a good afternoon,danos

Hello Kathryn,
a wonderful composition with great use of perspectives that make the still view more dynamic and, combined with the sense of movement in the sky, give it a startling and fascinating intensity. I love the soft light and colours and the eerie atmosphere they create. The contrast of textures between ground, boat and sky is marvellous. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hello Kathryn,
It sounds as if your trek to this site was a little hazardous!
It is a lovely, atmospheric shot, created by your fine composition and the unusual colours in the sky. I am impressed by your use of the metal cables, perfectly positioned as a guide and for dramatic effect.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi Kathryn
An original shot made very mysterious by the use of your filters
To me looks more like an artistic creation than a plain photography
Could be easily turned in a poster sold in stores
A very good job from someone very talented
Have a nice evening

Hello Kathryn
Wow, another great picture of the same boat as before. Amazing those colors, where they cast by the ND filters of was the sky really that color?
The framing is even better than the previous shot, with no distracting foreground.
Very nice indeed.
have a great time

Hi Katheryn,
I could swear I have seen another photo of the same boat somewhere else! The only difference is the location of the rails which was a bit further on the right.
Good pp and mood.

Dear Kathryn
This photo is making me smile. I'm just imagining you running around (not in crocs) in the freezing cold there like a kid in a lolly shop with this light. Man, what a decisive moment and what beautiful purplish tones you've brought out. I like how the rail line(?) leads the eye towards the poor old wrecl and you positioned the boat well, slightly off-centre. A magnificent photo, just as brilliant as your previous boat shot. And another one for my Shipwreck Theme, YAY! That's if you don't mind?
Hugs

Hello Kathryn,
What beauty you present us from the desolate Dungeness. A photographers dream location and you have done exceptionally well here. The viewpoint of the old boat is good and I like the nets scattered around. The colours of the sky are wonderful.
Best wishes, Ann

Hi Kathryn,
I just love your boat photo's they are really wonderful.
The colours are quite surreal in this one - Dungeness can be a bit of a spooky place to be especially when the sun goes down.
Congratulations again on a grand photo.
Kindest regards,
Dawn.

Bonjour Kathryn,
Bravo.
Bonne journée.
