Photographer's Note

This image was taken while standing on the Lock gate and from a low angle - it picks up the Oxford Canal after a days chugging-

It had been a greay overcast day and for a moment the sun came out just highlighting the bright colours.

I have to constantly remind myself how lucky I am to have this view from my front garden. It is a beautiful place to live.

There are over two thousand two hundred miles of waterways in the UK - all hand dug and hand built in the later half of the 1700s. There was no fancy machinery, no hydraulic systems - just pure hard graft, that still exist and are still in use over two hundred years later.

The canal system is now mainly used for leisure holidays- If you ever do come to the UK for a holiday its worth the investment.
