Photographer's Note

This is the Transporter bridge spanning the river Usk, in Newport Gwent, South Wales. Construction started in 1902 and the bridge was completed on 12th September 1906, it is one of only 2 in the United Kingdom and 7 in the world.
The towers stand 645 feet apart and rise 242 feet above road level, it is electrically powered the gondola being pulled accross by a cable wound round a drum in the motor house at a maximum speed of 10 feet per second.
The Transporter Bridge is a grade 1 listed structure and no longer used for general traffic as a new bridge was constructed down river.
