Photographer's Note

Almost all of us enjoy the countryside, whether for walking, running, cycling, climbing or simply relaxing and enjoying the fine weather, the scenery or the fresh air and the sounds of bird song. But unfortunately there appears to be a group of people who have no respect for the countryside and do not believe that anyone else should be able to enjoy it.

Here are three snapshots of rather disgusting scenes I came across a few months ago when out walking with friends around the Motherwell area of central Scotland:

The top picture of a pile of discarded beer bottles and cans was taken at a nature reserve on the banks of the River Clyde;

The middle photo was taken in woodland near Strathclyde Park where a car, presumably stolen, had previously been dumped and set on fire and later daubed with paint;

And, worst of all, the bottom photo was taken from a bridge over a small river on the outskirts of Motherwell. You could actually smell the stench of the river long before reaching the bridge and the river was almost completely choked with discarded junk including car parts, wheels, bottles, cans, plastics and rotting wood.

Maybe one day we shall find a cure for those people who have no respect either for Nature or other human beings.
