Photographer's Note

This is Charing Cross near the centre of Glasgow in Scotland. The lit-up building is a 19th century tenement block called St. George's Mansions, very typical of the city.

This was originally taken on Fuji Provia 100F film with a Minolta Dynax 7 camera with a Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 EX lens at 35mm. I wanted to combine the building with the trails from the traffic so I used the long shutter speed to capture the traffic motion. I used a wide angle setting on my lens combined with the vertical format to try and emphasise the traffic in the foreground both to get a sense of the traffic rushing at the viewer and to lead into the picture towards the tenement.
