Photographer's Note

You may assume from the title that this photo is a dedication for Craig Macintosh, one of our favourite TE members. Truth to be told, Charles Rennie Mackintosh is the most famous Glasgow architect, and his name is spelled differently from our friend, Craig. Mackintosh is for Glasgow what Gaudi is for Barcelona. Sadly, I didn’t explore too many of his works, having been focused on the classic structures but there are people coming here just to see his architecture. This picture presents the very first of the works done by Mackintosh in Glasgow. It is called “The Lighthouse”, and I think it does not resemble the typical Mackintosh style at all. It houses Scotland's Centre for Design and Architecture, opened in 1999. As Wikipedia states, “the Lighthouse is the renamed conversion of the former offices of the Glasgow Herald newspaper. Completed in 1895, it was designed by Mackintosh.”

This photo was taken from the roof of a multi storey car park which is across the road from the Lighthouse.
