Photographer's Note
Another view of Edinburgh city centre from the Scott Monument.
This view looks west along Princes Street and the gardens. On the left is the castle. In the centre of the shot are the Royal Scottish Academy (right) and the National Gallery of Scotland (left).
The shot required a grad filter and I used a beanbag for support and my wife's hands to shade the lens from any additional flare from the sun!
When I process my RAW shots I always desaturate them to get a quick idea whether they will work as a B&W. In this case I saw the potential becuase of the large range of contrast and detail in the shot.
The actual conversion was done in Photoshop using the channel mixer. Once a suitable overal balance was found, further tweaking was made using the Dodge and Burn tools.
Critiques most welcome here, I am keen to know what people think, good or bad.
Thanks
Craig

Craig,
Your pictures from the Scott Monument give a nice feel for Edinburgh. Great imagination. How long has the monument been open for climbing?

Hi Craig,
As an excercise in technique and pp, outstanding, but for me, I find it a bit 'difficult' to look at, - maybe there is too much to see, or the picyure is too big for this format....
Regards,
Dougie.
