Photographer's Note

This crazy juggler is just one of the weird forms of street entertainment you can see in the "Royal Mile" in the City of Edinburgh during the time of the Edinburgh International Festival which takes place each year during the month of August.

The International Festival brings top class performers of music (especially classical music), theatre, opera and dance from around the world to perform. The festival also hosts a series of visual art exhibitions, talks and workshops. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe ("The Fringe") is the world's largest arts festival, with the 2012 event spanning 25 days totalling over 2,695 shows from 47 countries in 279 venues. Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place alongside the more formal Festival.

During Festival time, Edinburgh's city centre becomes alive with street entertainers of all types, including magicians, musicians, dancers, comedians and jugglers. This fellow appeared to be having a rather stressful time trying to juggle a large watermelon at the same time as two flaming torches! But the crowd seemed to enjoy his performance!
