Photographer's Note

Montrose- small coastal town in Angus. Town has got natural lagoon- Montrose Basin. It is the largest inland salt water basin in the UK, and and an important habitat for the mute swan. The picture been taken from hill near Basin; harbour,sea would be on the right.

Montrose South Esk Viaduct- The present bridge was opened to traffic in 1881 and carries a single-track section of the line Aberdeen-Dundee and relpace an earlier structure designed by Sir Thomas Bouch, which was demolished in December 1880.

Tower- Old and St Andrew's Church - The present building dates from 1791 with its magnificent steeple designed by James Gillespie Graham, dating from 1834. Formerly known as Montrose Old Church it was recently united with St Andrew's Church to become Old and St Andrew's Church, Montrose, a Church of Scotland.
