Photographer's Note

The pre Norman Celtic monastic settlement established around 800 AD was plundered several times by the Vikings. Around 1177, Inch Abbey Cistercian Priory, was established by the Norman Knight, John de Courcy. Monastic life continued on the site until the 16th century.

Shot in the late evening when the sun was very low, most of the ruin was in shadow but some shafts of sunlight illuminated briefly elements of the walls and the great Gothic window.
