Photographer's Note
As I wrote, I wanted to go from Portrush along the beach to Dunluce Castle, but I went the wrong way. But it was probably too far to go there and back on foot and there were no buses. Nothing happened, I saw the castle earlier, but from one side only.
A TALE OF TWO CASTLES
In the 16th Century when Sorley Boy McDonnell came over from Scotland to consolidate McDonnell territories in both Ireland and Scotland, his main base became Dunluce Castle. Dunluce Castle is one of the most iconic monuments in Northern Ireland situated as it is rather precariously on the craggy and treacherous Antrim coast and it provides a very important chapter in the history of the McDonnells of Antrim and North East Ulster.
It was Sorley Boy’s grandson, the 2nd Earl of Antrim, and his wife who finally decided to abandon Dunluce. In 1639 as they were waiting for dinner one evening the kitchen, along with kitchen staff, fell into the sea. This is thought to have been the final straw. Although the 1st Earl of Antrim had already built a fine house at Glenarm, this was burnt down in the 1640s by a Scots Covenanter army, so even though they still visited a wing of the house, the Antrim family based itself at a house near Dunluce called Ballymagarry until Glenarm Castle was rebuilt by the 5th Earl in 1756.
Dunluce Castle still belongs to the McDonnell family, however, it is currently managed under a deed of guardianship by the Northern Irish Environment Agency.

Hello Malgo,
It's a nice photo, even though it's only from a distance. I think this is actually how this castle looks the best. I think my hitchhiking friend and I got inside the ruins but the best views were from a distance. But it was a very cloudy day with a threat of rain, so my photos didn't turn out as nicely as this.
Best regards,
Gert
PS Yesterday I discovered the latest movie of wall paintings. Some of them were superb and ought to make it to TE.

Hello Malgo, a lovely landscape view of the famous castle.
Just imagine being there when the kitchen plus staff fell into the sea!!
I have posted pictures of Dunluce, but mine were much closer views. We were on a coach which took us right to the gate, so we didn't have time to get a view like this.
Thanks for sharing, and your informative notes.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Malgo,
The castle is well placed in the frame. The point of view is showing the details of the castle. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice Day.

Hello Malgo,
Your photograph very clearly reveals the precarious position of the castle, though for security, it must have been originally in an ideal situation!
This viewpoint allows us to see the entire castle, despite you worrying that it was a long way away!
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hello Malgo,
The location of these ruins is extraordinary and very impressive.
I like the position high upon the rock near the sea, the fresh green coastline and the view of sandy beaches in the distance.
Maybe not bad not to take the right path right away. It's a fantastic area.
Best regards, Paul

Hello, that castle in ruins overlooks the sea. It is often used as a movie setting. The moor around it on the cliffs offers stunning views of the coastline. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello MAlgo,
I understand with this picture why you've cropped the sky on the other one . A whte one , by this cloudy weather , but the ruins of castle are superb and the greenery is splendid.

Dear Malgo,
Excellent landscape portraying a very spectacular ruin of a castle in a mesmerizing environment. It made me reminisce Dunnottar, which I visited in 2013.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Excellent view of the ruins atop the giant eroded rock, Malgo.
managed a fairly good sight even as the sky were grey and "washed". Nontheless, the castle and the old walls with the beautiful green around, shown in fine manner.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Hi Malgorzata
This must have been a magnificent place in its day !! They knew where to build in those days: in more recent times we have built on cliffs that disappear into the sea.....
Good documentary shot of this ruin, Well done
Best regards

Hi Malgo
I went all the way down to the sea here, I made my way down and it was so much fun, great views. This was one of my favorite places in all of Ireland. great view here too, i like it because it shows how it is dangerously on the cliff edge, amazing how they built this! fun shot
cheers
Craig
