Photographer's Note

Belfast Castle is set on the slopes of Cavehill Country Park in the west of Belfast. It was completed in 1760 by George Augustus Chichester, 2nd Marquess of Donegall, then completed by Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 8th Earl of Shaftesbury. It was presented to the city of Belfast in 1934. From 1978 to 1988 major refurbishment works occured in the castle. Today it hosts an antique shop, a restaurant and a visitors centre. It is a popular venue for conferences, private dining and wedding receptions (there was one when I arrived at the castle). The castle is surrounded by a nice park. Footpaths start from the castle and drive you to the summit of Cave Hill, a mountain 370 meters height dominating Belfast. From there you have a great view on Belfast city, Belfast Lough, Antrim Mountains and Mourne Mountains when the weather is fine.
