Autumn Priory, a photo from West Sussex, England

Photographer's Note

Autumn light on the walls of the beautiful Priory Church of St Mary and St Blaise, in the West Sussex village of Boxgrove, England. The 1086 Domesday Book lists an entry of there being an Anglo-Saxon church on this site; but the present impressive building dates from the early 12th century.

Hello Brian,
This lovely church is shown beautifully in this well constructed photo. I like the use of the wall as a diagonal leading line. The glorious autumnal colours and light are magnificent. I like the way that the clouds are radiating out from the church tower.

Hello Brian,

I look at this and try to imagine just what wonderful images you might have come away with if you had managed to meet up with us during our little TE meeting in Peebles! The weather that weekend was unfortunately generally less than spectacular - apart from a furious rainstorm (!) and I'm not sure if many of us succeeded in capturing as many good pictures as we would have liked.

This is a delightful photograph, very well composed with the line of the wall leading us toward the little church which is perfectly placed in the frame. The autumnal colours are striking, the lighting, particularly on the church, is beautiful and the sky is sublime.

Good composition, perfect exposure and, as always, exquisite details and sharpness.

The obliquely placed wall makes for a strong composition, taking the eyes toward the beautiful shrub and the nicely lit church. I like the light and colours. Superb rendering of the textural detail in that moss encrusted wall.

the combination of light and colors couldn´t be more captivating.It creates together with so lovely looking sky unique mood of the scene.The second thing I really like about your picture is your POV and the way you used the wall to create a diagonal line leading our eyes through the whole scene.
The end result is magnificent!

Hello,
another well done! The wall in the foreground is a very nice eye leading element charming itself with all the bits of moss on it. The autumn bushes with all the red tones contrast beautifully with the bright green grass. Very nice sky for a background.

Aside from the very attractive composition and superb colours you have beautiful details here Brian. The mosses and grass growing on the wall add a delightful touch and the light on the Rowan tree and the red tiles on the roof is perfect adding mood and warmth. Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Brian,

The diagonal axis of the moss and lichen encrusted brick wall adds superb lead in lines dynamism and diminishing linear perspective terminating first at the red leaved tree which in turn leads the eye towards the sunlit red roofed Priory Church positioned nicely over the vanishing point. Tfs!

Nice compo which makes great use of the wall as a lead line. Love the glimpse of autumnal reds on the leaves that contrasts vividly with the greens.
