Newcastle quay in winter, a photo from Tyne and Wear, England

Photographer's Note

The weather in the North East England is quite changeable this holiday season. Now and then we do have a chance to go out for a walk. I always enjoy sharing a freshly taken photo even if it is not a new destination for me. On the third day of Christmas, we went for a walk along the river in Newcastle upon Tyne. There were moments with warm sunshine, and moments with rain but it was great to have a socially distanced walk again. This is a spot which I photograph quite often but I am not always happy with the outcome. This time I became quite annoyed by the white high-rise building in the left. It is positioned exactly to hide the beautifully shaped tower of the Newcastle Cathedral. Unfortunately, I didn’t have flexibility to move to avoid it.

Hi Mariusz,The skyscraper is not that bad, it gives a touch of recent modernity to this mix of architecture from every era. Perfect capture in a moment of perfect light, but it seems that the weather has changed, I just saw a video of Bev on facebook with a lot of snow ... and from tonight it will also fall in my village. Modern buildings "rising" from within the older waterfront neighborhood along the quay. The bright day brought out fine details and colors, each facade has different appearence on the scene.

Hello Mariusz,

I'm glad that you have been able to get out for a walk and for a chance to take some photographs.
Newcastle is a place that you love to photograph, which is not surprising, for it has a a very eclectic mix of buildings, the river and the bridges.
You had some fine weather at this moment, which has created good reflections on the water, as a prelude to the lovely, period, riverside buildings.
The clock tower is strongly positioned in your well taken photograph.

No worries about the new building, they are springing up everywhere as we progress in styles.

I can't recognize this part of the city. I walked a lot there. the best part of the weather in UK it is very changeable then in few minutes everything can swap if we have rain. here in brazil we can have a week of intense rain..
nice view of the city with its architectonic elements.

Hello Mariusz, a good view bathed in the winter sunshine. There is a lovely reflected light on the river.
There is a good mix of architectural styles; I can understand your exasperation at the modern high rise but it really doesn't spoil the view.

Hello Mariusz,
I totally understand your frustration with that tall modern building. And not just because it hides something else. It's just not fitting in this scene.
I suppose the architect will argue that the style provokes discussion with its environment ... :)
The buildings along the quay provide a more charming look and the facades are beautifully lit on that sunny day.
Close to the quay, the water in the river shows beautiful reflections.

I only visited Newcastle very briefly, before we had to get back to the port to catch the ferry to IJmuiden. This is a really nice view of the city in a wonderful warm sunlight, which couldn't have been better in winter. There is a nice mix of architecture, old and new. Very well done.

Hello Mariusz.
The view of this city is very pleasant, with the promenade and its pier, there are different houses but they convey the style of an era, the modern building is a horror and after reading that it covers the view of the cathedral tower, it was for slap the person who authorized its construction, there will be less central areas where to place new buildings.
The color and light management are magnificent, highlighting the beauty and sharpness of the image.
