Photographer's Note

This is a long exposure shot taken of a friend of mine using Fire Poi at a barbeque the one night.

I had the camera balanced on a fence post to keep it focussed in the same area, although it was not too important as the fire poi were constantly in motion themselves.

The person using the fire poi learned how to use them working at a summer camp in the United States sometime during 2003.

I took a whole bunch of photo's of the fire poi that evening, but chose this one becuase the fire poi paths stayed inside the frame for the duration of the exposure. Another factor was that the firepoi were relatively in focus and the paths they left were not to blurry. The finaly reason I chose this picture is the shape of the paths left.

Watching somebody use fire poi can be very mesmerising, watching the two poi follow each other around the person's body. Having tried it once or twice (without lighiting them!) my appreciation of this art/skill is great - its a lot harder than it looks.
