Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

When we stayed in Suffolk, we were only a few mils away from Framlingham, which is a very old town and has the remains of this fine castle.

Framlingham Castle was built in the 12th century by Roger Bigod, one of the barons who later challenged King John, resulting in the signing of the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta laid down many laws, some of which are still relevant today.

The Castle has had a turbulent history, being constantly seized by the crown and then returned to the previous owners. There is lots of documentation on the Internet about the fortunes of Framlingham Castle.

At the present time, the walls and bridge are strong and upstanding, whilst most of the interior buildings have gone.

The castle's most recent claim to fame is being the subject of the 'Castle on the Hill' recorded by Ed Sheering, who was brought up in Framlingham. Since this recording went to number 2 in the hit parade, in 2017, the number of visitors to the castle has increased by 100,000!

I will add a second, wider view of the castle as a workshop.

Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)
