Photographer's Note

I continue trawling through my archives with a series of pictures from the small town of Aldeburgh in Suffolk, United Kingdom.

Some words about the town from Wikipedia:

Aldeburgh is a coastal town in the English county of Suffolk. Located on the North Sea coast to the north of the River Alde, the town is notable for having been the home of composer Benjamin Britten and as the centre of the international Aldeburgh Festival of arts at nearby Snape Maltings founded by him in 1948.

It remains an artistic and literary centre with an annual Poetry Festival and several food festivals as well as other cultural events. It is a former Tudor port and was granted Borough status in 1529 by Henry VIII. Its historic buildings include a 16th-century moot hall and a Napoleonic-era Martello Tower.

Alde Burgh means "old fort" although this structure, along with much of the Tudor town, has now been lost to the sea. In the 16th century, Aldeburgh was a leading port, and had a flourishing ship-building industry. Sir Francis Drake's Greyhound and Pelican (later renamed the Golden Hind) were both built in Aldeburgh. The flagship of the Virginia Company, the Sea Venture is believed to have been built here in 1608.

Aldeburgh's importance as a port declined as the River Alde silted up and larger ships could no longer berth. It survived mainly as a fishing village until the 19th century, when it also became a seaside resort. Much of its distinctive and whimsical architecture derives from that period.

Hello Stephen

A good minimalist shot with the sinewy rope snaking across the beaching adding a lead in line of sorts. A good contrast between the warm toned sand and cooler hues of the blue sea. Tfs!

The boat has seen better days. The distance between the beach and the horizon is giving depth to the composiiton. It is well divided, the sky, the sea and the beach. The point of view is showing the details of the boat. Have a nice day.

Of course the boat in foreground is the real eye catcher on this nice picture

Lovely picture of this rowboat in the late sunshine of the day. I should say: waiting for better times, for the condition of the boat is maybe still sufficient, but it is better if it gets a proper service.

Teeth of times are notable on this boat, left to decay on shore, Stephen.
Not everything we see on our planet has beauty or attractive sight (like the Tzfat winery), but it is a part of daily life.
Ancient daily life for this blue-painted wooden boat.

Hello Stephen,

This is a particularly strong composition.
The boat is very well placed in the frame, at an angle which guides diagonally across the frame.
The textures of the pebbles and of the boat are almost palpable.
I love all the fishing type paraphernalia that is littered about, almost as if the boat is waiting to begin its job!

first things first, great job with the horizon line, its perfectly straight and near the 1/3 mark, important composition elements. secondly, i really like the aged paint which is chipping, and we can see lots of textured detailing on the wood. fine lighting too, lots of excellent point to bring up. cheers
