I continue trawling through my archives with a series of pictures from the small town of Aldeburgh in Suffolk, United Kingdom.

Some words about the town from Wikipedia:

Aldeburgh is a coastal town in the English county of Suffolk. Located on the North Sea coast to the north of the River Alde, the town is notable for having been the home of composer Benjamin Britten and as the centre of the international Aldeburgh Festival of arts at nearby Snape Maltings founded by him in 1948.

It remains an artistic and literary centre with an annual Poetry Festival and several food festivals as well as other cultural events. It is a former Tudor port and was granted Borough status in 1529 by Henry VIII. Its historic buildings include a 16th-century moot hall and a Napoleonic-era Martello Tower.

Alde Burgh means "old fort" although this structure, along with much of the Tudor town, has now been lost to the sea. In the 16th century, Aldeburgh was a leading port, and had a flourishing ship-building industry. Sir Francis Drake's Greyhound and Pelican (later renamed the Golden Hind) were both built in Aldeburgh. The flagship of the Virginia Company, the Sea Venture is believed to have been built here in 1608.

Aldeburgh's importance as a port declined as the River Alde silted up and larger ships could no longer berth. It survived mainly as a fishing village until the 19th century, when it also became a seaside resort. Much of its distinctive and whimsical architecture derives from that period.

Hello Stephen, Nice to look a bit at the pictures from the archive. I must be inspired by something to look at my old photos because the new ones come so fast. Here it is rather deep drawer :). Nice view of the preparation of the fishermen's boat for the winter maybe? Anyway, pleasant picture in nice colours. and with people activity.

Outre la note d'accompagnement très instructive, j'apprécie la prise de vue montrant la préparation du bateau.
Des marins professionnels qui vivent de la pêche, leur bateau doit être prêt à affronter la mer dans de bonnes ou mauvaises conditions.

'Alde Burgh' sounds Germanic. Not that surprising really when the Angles & Saxons migrated to Britain from north Germany. A clear blue sky contrasts well with the red top of the boat and the flats at right. Tfs!

Hello Stephen,

It's great fun trawling through archives as you find photographs that bring back wonderful memories and, you also, find photographs that you wonder why you have never shared!
The boat looks to be really stranded, with everything inside its bows pointing up in the air!
The men give the story to the scene, obviously fishermen and seeking to mend or fold the important net.
There are lots of 'fishing' details to make this scene interesting to peruse.
I love the added detail of the outgoing bird, nothing here for him!

As simple as it looks, Stephen, this daily life scene has a multitude of colors, vividly shine on that bright day.The passing seagull and the two guys working enliven the whole. Taken well.

Un cadrage classique mais toujours efficace pour mettre en vedette le sujet principal, ici le bateau en cale sèche. Les couleurs sont belles et la mouette passe juste au bon moment.

A very nice scene with fishermen at work, the boat looks very well maintained and I think they prepare only nets for the fishing on the next day

Did you find a trawler as you were trawling through your archives? Well, actually, this boat looks a little small to be used as a trawler. I like the vibrant colors.
