Photographer's Note

Clevedon Pier in the Bristol Channel.

Originally opened in 1869 the pier structure failed during stress testing in 1970. Re-opened in 1998 thanks to efforts from local campaigners.

The Bristol channel has a tidal range of 15 meters, the second largest in the world. For this reason the pier head has landing stages at several levels to allow boats to dock during the different phases of the tide.
