Photographer's Note

This picture presents the Bath Abbey, the most iconic church in the city of Bath, photographed from its North side, while the main fašade which I showed yesterday, faces West. As I discussed on another occasion, in the northern hemisphere photographing something from the North is always a challenge, so the cloudy weather helps a bit with that by covering the intense sunshine and making the shadow less pronounced.

While I was trying to capture this less popular side of the abbey, a young lady, who arrived with a larger group of friends, quickly stopped in front of me to take a photo of the abbey with her mobile phone. This of course offered me a chance to include her as a foreground. People taking photos with their phones often make a charming bend backwards, while holding the phone in front of them. It looks a bit as if they were worshipping the phone. If I knew she will come I would probably kneel down to set her better against the abbey without so much pavement in the foreground, but I had just a split of the second to react before she joined back her friends, leaving me with boringly empty pavement in the foreground.

I discussed on some previous occasions that people in the northern countries often do not seem to dress according to the current weather or temperature outside. If it is formally summer, they dress lightly even if it is freezing. For example, at the primary school the girls always start wearing a summer dress after Easter. I have witnessed already children going in summer dresses to school while it was snowing. This lady was a foreigner I think, she dressed appropriately to the weather on the day, even though it was formally a summer day yet.
