Photographer's Note
The streets of York are being turned into an art gallery over summer as 49 full-size replicas of famous paintings are hung around the city. Masterpieces from Monet to Van Gogh, Ramsay to Carracci are lighting up the bustling streets of York's historic city centre.
The Grand Tour is the result of a collaboration between HP (Hewlett Packard), York Art Gallery and The National Gallery.
(painting featured in this photo is "Calais Pier", by J.M.W. Turner)

Hi Robert,
very interesting composition. On the left side very impressive, colorful and artistic part and right side unsophisticated view of modern world. :) TFS.

I love the warm light here Robi - the colours and contrast are really excellent. The gold vertical provided by the picture frame divides the frame nicely on the third. Very well composed shot.
Best regards, Roberto

Hello Robi,
This outdoor exhibition looks well worth a visit. The people aboard the boats in Turner's painting would probably appreciate the life-buoy hanging on the wall!!
Clever composition, clear details and very truthful colours.
Best wishes....Maggie

I didn't know about this. It's a while since I've been to York and would usually avoid it in summer anyway. I like the way you have waited to take the photo while there was someone looking at it: or rather reading the explanation. I wonder if the life-saver was there on purpose because of the subject of the painting. ;D Either that or this is by the river.

Hej Robert,
The comp makes the day here. and the contrast with this "fancy" dressed not that sporty gentleman and the "sturm und drang" romantic painting.
I love it.
