Photographer's Note
I took this early last week, but had forgotten about it until now. I know there are a lot of these photos about but driving past the fields its such a peaceful sight, so i had to stop and get out and make my own hay bale photo. The light was great it was abtou 8:45am and produced these great long shadows. I know its not th emost interesting photo in the world, but I wanted to add it to my gallery anyway.
The sky wasnt too interestig so I croped most of it, just left enough so you cna see what a great day it was.
Just after taking this I saw a deer, and when it saw me it froze for abotu 20 seconds, I managed to get a few photos, but nothing worth posting, but it was magical to see a deer like that!
Also I have a slight problem if anyone can help, my polarizer has quite a bit of dust on it and I woudl like to know what it is safe to clean it with without ruining it? i dont have any special cloths or anything, so something you may find in a house or buy cheaply would be best!

A lovely composition Mark, really well cropped and composed, great DOF, I like a lot the over-dimensioned barrel in foreground against the others ... and also I like the hard shadows..
a good job, compliments!!
have a nice week, Fabio.

lovely photo - I think slightly more of the sky would have balanced the photo better.
As for the filter - there are a couple of things I use - some will cringe I guess, but I treat them the same as my glasses, hot water and soap, gently dry in with a very soft towel and leave it in the airing cupboard (filters only not glasses here folks). Alternatively, the cloth that opticians sell for very little to clean glasses with. It depends wether grease is involved or not. Just warn 'people' if the filter is in the airing cupboard...

Good morning Mark -
Nice image and captured at the right time of the day, late in the afternoon. Composition is rather peaceful and reminds of the years I spent around Cambridge.
As to cleaning your polarlizer I would be hesitant running water on it since it is a sandwich of two pieces of glass that you can not take apart. If the inside gets wet there is no way to clean the glass. Go to the opical shop and get some glass clearner and a cloth and just focus on the outside pieces of glass.
Thanks for sharing

I think it's the shadows that make this shot Mark. i know what you mean now by "all at it".
As the sky was blue I think I would have left just a bit more showimg as we don't see blue sky often here.
Can't add anything to the advice you've been given about cleaning filters and lenses; the optician's is the best bet. Nearest is at Saltburn, Milton St. Opposite Somerfields.

Hej Mark,
Good photo of this field, the long shadows are indeed very nice. I guess such fields can also be found in Denmark, but I'm only in side the big city, so I haven't seen them myself. ;-)

It’s a good end of summer picture, Mark
The perspective is very good too, with the nice big shadows,
I liked that you included the sky and the trees in the back
Without it it would look a bit monotone
Coors are difficult here as you said (it is difficult to get the yellow golden hay just like it was).
Well composed

I like your natural framing here, the trees at the top and the huge bale and its shadow at the foreground. Composition is very good so is the exposure, ver sharp!
Thank you for your comments on my photo, "Family at Leisure". I used a very slight white diffuse glow for all except for the pier and the people on it.
I have a suggestion for your polarizer. You may use the "Eclipse" Cleaning System Solution. It is the solution used for cleaning digital camera sensors. For a sensor you have to buy a special cloth called Pec-Pad Photo Wipes. I do not think you need that for a polarizer. A polarizer is not as sensitive as a sensor. An clean soft cotton undershirt will do.

Great shot Mark;
Nice sharp detail, true colors (not been noticeably adjusted in photoshop), and good tonal levels.
I like the composition you managed here. Nice and close bale of hay, and the shadow beiung cast to the right really fits with the cropping.
As far as the polariser goes. I use a cleaning cloth if I have one at hand, but in desperate times (this may make some TrekEarth members cringe)- YES, I've used my t-shirt! I've run my polariser under running water before, dried them off with a nice soft towel- and they've been just fine. I don't think they are that delicate. I wouldn't worry tooo much about it mate.
All the best Mark!

Mark I like how you took time to fit all these in and allowed only one to be close for detail and the bales in the background are very nicely laid out too. I have shot many bales in field photos and from looking at this tells me your eye is well trained for composition. Good work.

Nice photo Mark,
Excellent composition, good sharp details and rich colours.
As lots of people have already said, the shadows make it a bit special.

Hi Mark,
A common late summer motif, but you composed it very well. I like how regular the pattern is. Low angle helps a lot. Well done.
Thanks,
Marek

Bonjour Mark
Cette photo me rappelle mon enfance à la ferme!
The foreground and it's shadow adds much interest to this picture.
Merci.
