Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

This photograph was taken near the outer harbour of Wells.

I was so curious as to where the cyclists had all gone!

There was no evidence of them in the immediate vicinity. I assumed that they were people who worked at the outer harbour and rather than undergo the mile walk from the town, cycled the distance and fencing on this jetty made a suitable place for them to secure their bikes.

What is also interesting from this photograph is evidence of how the inner harbour has become silted and therefore, can only take small craft. You can see the spur of sand bank at the harbour mouth.

As a workshop, I will show the lifeboat station. From this it it easier to understand why it has been moved to the outer rather than the inner harbour.

Have a great day, Bev :-)
