Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

Liverpool was a delight to explore with its Christmas decorations illuminating the streets with exciting features and colours but along Albert Docks the decorations were produced by warm reflections in the water.

I have photographed this area before but how remarkably different it looks at night!

I will add a photograph from a another part as a workshop.

The photo is beautiful! I love the warm colours of the old illuminated warehouses and the silvery Christmas lights between the lampposts add a very charming contrast, too. The calm water reflected the scene so wonderfully with just the right amount of distortion. Very well done.

A silver thread allong the waterfront prtomenade and its reflection added wonderful extra illumination to the usual lights of this place, Beverley.
Holiday's decoration always adding charm to a night scene, well done here.

Your main picture is real the most beautiful
Wonderful night image with lovely light and reflecttions.
(I am affraid during the late evening or night take pictures, certainly in the city, for my camera)
Sharpness and clarity are fantastic.
Lovely compostion and presentations make yoyr picture attractive.

Good reflections, good colours, lots of noise in the black sky though. This creates a bit of a haunted-like atmosphere. Great to read you had a great time in Liverpool.

Hello Bev,
In this particular street the Christmas decorations were ver discreet, which I appreciate. Only the silvery ribbon hanging between the lampposts was enough to create a pleasant ambience, along with the light shining on the yellow walls. They are all perfectly reflected in the water. If hand held, this is an admirably sharp photo.

Hello Beverley, I really like the golden glow that you have captured here, and beautifully repeated in the reflection. The ‘string’ of silvery lights remind me of the ribbon on a present! Lovely composition.

Christmas decorations are indeed important here, adding light to the scene. Those brown buildings with somewhat rough texture give impression of gingerbread houses. I bet the effect would be quite different on daylight!

Hello Beverley,
The colour of the buildings makes them and their reflections stand out well in the black night.
Personally I don't think the architecture is very special but it's a sublime night shot.
In a corner in the middle of the picture I discover two very remarkable overhanging spaces. Very intriguing.
The quay seems to be a place where you can enjoy a pleasant stroll.

Hello Beverley,

A couple of tips for reducing 3200+ grain in nocturnal shots:

* use dust & scratches with a zero margin feather border
* introduce more shadows. You can control this too. eg by roping off the sky with the lasso if there are some shadow details in the main shot you want to retain. Repeat in other areas like fg water and the bollard reflections.

That said, this is still a superb night shot of Liverpool. Good sharpness and great warm cold colour contrasts. Tfs!

Hello Bev, When you travel in December then you must take a lot of night shots, the day is so short. Wonderful view of this street at night. Impressive reflections. Good colors and sharpness.

yes, the WS is a little cleaner, but the main post is worthy as well. the buildings have turned into a bold amber, thats pretty cool. Maybe even more important are the dark blacks for that all important contrast. Total bonus to have the reflections. You must have been thinking This is a great TE opportunity when you first saw it haha. excellent exposure and final result, I like it. cheers

Hi Bev,
as simple as this architecture is, there is something attractive in the repeated motif of the window. The geometry is eye pleasing and the light of course so pleasantly warm.
My first thought was about the noise but I see Chris has taken care about it, it feels a bot tilted as well but it does not stop us from enjoying its magical mood.
Very romantic place for a walk.

my hotel wasn't so near of the docks, it would be nice have took some nocturne images as you did. marvelous golden against the black and the reflections.
