Photographer's Note

When visiting merseyside, tourists would normally opt for Liverpool FC or Everton FC. However, there is another football club nearby. This was taken a few seasons ago. With a cheap camera it is difficult to capture a moving image with any degree of clarity. A penalty kick allows a bit more time. This shot has been cropped with a minimal of touching up of contrast. It probably suffers from lack of large zoom lense but this was a one-take shot. The ball can be seen in line with the corner flag, which may or may not help the pic.
I like the fact that the goalkeeper is in mid-dive and the crowd are not yet party to the result of the penalty (a goal of course)
The player Shane Nicholson no longer plays for Tranmere. He signed for Chesterfield but is currently on loan at Boston. The opposition team Brentford are in the same league as TRFC.
For those from outside the UK (and even inside!) Tranmere Rovers play in League 1 in England (the third division)and have never really hit the heights. We did reach the League Cup Final once (2000) but still we dream!
I'd be interested to hear from others who take sporting shots for tips etc.
I've listed the coounty as Cheshire but it hasn't been so since 1974. This causes confusion with Liverpool and Lancashire. Both are in Merseyside.
