Photographer's Note
Captured this famous scene in London in the spring, I love the shiny tunic with fantastic reflection of Old Admiralty Building.Horse Guards Parade is the setting for various military ceremonies throughout the year including the Trooping the Colour which marks the Queen's official birthday. At the heart of Whitehall, it was the traditional entrance to the Royal Palaces and is still guarded by mounted sentries from the Queen's Household Cavalry. Changing the Guard takes place here every morning at the following times: 11am Monday to Saturday and 10am Sunday. It is at this time that twelve mounted troops in traditional costume arrive from their Hyde Park Barracks. At the Guard Changing ceremony, the Old Guard forms up on the north side of the Horse Guards Parade enclosure and the New Guard on the south side.To mark the second of the Queen's two birthdays (this is the official one, her actual birthday is on 21st April), Trooping the Colour presents a vibrant display of ceremony and military history. It's a spectacular piece of pageantry but also a timely reminder of the role of the armed forces who are - in theory at least - under the Queen's control. Hundreds of well-disciplined soldiers in full dress uniform march past at the Horse Guards Parade, and a different Battalion gives the Royal Salute each year, all accompanied by stirring military music from the massed bands. If you want to avoid the crush you can see the Horse Guards practicing for the grand parade at two smaller rehearsals in the days leading up to the grand event - namely the Major General's Review on Saturday 2nd June 2012 and the Colonel's Review on Saturday 9th June 2011.TICKETS:The Ballot for tickets for seated stands around Horse Guards Parade on 16th June will open in January 2012 and close in February. Hi, Iain,
Good idea for army uniform, if they concentrate the sunlights on the enemy's eyes... Excellent shot, I have never seen similar soldier dress. An interesting and useful note.
Have a good weekend!

Hello Iain,
What an innovative composition, way above the average shot featuring a Life Guard. Superb light and reflections; excellent clarity. Very well done.

Hello Iain - The clarity in this shot is very good. I like the bright reflections in the breastplate - so shiny and bright. Glad I don't have to do the polishing! The red 'tails' on the helmet are, for me, the highlight of the shot. The saturated colour and the way the light falls on them is excellent and those few 'bad-hair-day' strands are lovely. Very good shot. Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Iain
Very nice reflections on the shiny tunic, we can see the tourists watching this event. Good camera settings to have the bokeh blurred and so a sharp "back-portrait".

Sorry no more smileys today, I spent all them this morning!

Saw this long ago, Iain, found it yet again - magnificent shine brass shield of the soldier, mirror almost a full view of the ceramony.
The red decorated helmet the spear at hand grip disgonally - all culminate to a wonderful photo.
Have a nice day,
Ike
