Photographer's Note

Stormy view from the north bank of the River Thames at the iconic Thames Barrier in Silvertown, London, England. Operational since 1982 the barrier was built 2 miles downstream of the Isle of Dogs (Canary Wharf) at a cost of £534M and is designed to prevent Central London from being flooded by high tides or storm/tidal surges moving in from the North Sea. There have been a record number of closures this year with 50 so far which is already twice as any other year since its completion.
