Photographer's Note

I was actually on my way from Victoria station to meet friends in the Star, Belgravia (a lovely old pub, and famous as the place where the Great Train Robbery was hatched). I can't now remember the street where this photograph was made, but it must have been near Eaton Square. I saw this girl walking towards me, and got my camera ready, just as a man overtook me on the pavement. I was so pleased by the serendipity of the moment, as she didn't bother with me, and had eyes only for the passer-by. Were they neighbours, sharing a greeting, or simply strangers sizing each other up? Had I even witnessed a pick-up? I'll never know...
