Snow on the Main Street, a photo from Lancashire, England

Hello Everyone,

We have had snow for quite a while but, today, it has begun to thaw and no longer looks attractive on photographs.

I looked back at my archive of winter scenes in the village and was surprised just how much snow we have had over the years.

This is the main street of the village, which has been cleared of most of the snow. It would still be quite treacherous for some cars because the hills are quite steep.

You may find the w/s interesting, too!

Hi Beverley,
The main picture is "informative", but I find the WS photo as attractive and much more intriguing as far as photographic technique.
The WS has good depth, contrast of the shadows cast and the red barrier.
Main photo beautifully shows how daily life affected by the snow. Both are good documentary from your village.
We had no rain for 3+ weeks and enjoy 23C right now.

Hello Bev,
This was taken exactly 10 years earlier than I would have thought. The dirty tracks in the street probably didn't look so nice when you were standing there, but they are quite eye-catching for the photo, as curved lines often are. But the woman with the pink scarf and the red car are even better focal points, and the snow still covering the trees and cars looks fresh and clean enough to make this photo almost qualify for an unconventional Christmas card. This should be pretty much what Stockholm looks like today, after we received a fair amount of snow off and on during the day. But of course the buildings are different. ;-)

Hi Bev,2 nice memories of the last snowy day in your village,no the sun is back in mine too and the snow has gone. Excellent view of main street,with the others are closed,it seems that there isn't a great organisation to clean the street as i can see...eheh...and it's the same in Cuggiono..ahaha...well done! Hi Bev,
If I remember right, 2010 was the coldest winter in recent years. Very good view of the village on snowy conditions. Such a steep street is tricky to drive on snow. I'm not particularly interested in modern cars, but that little red Citroen adds nice splash of colour.

Reminds me of Sofia in Bulgaria where they had 30-40 cm of snow, and yes it quickly becomes slushy and unpleasant to walk in. The red car adds a splash of colour with its bright yellow number plate. Tfs!

Hello Beverley, a lovely picture of winter in Trawden. Traffic has passed through, yet the parked cars still have their covering of snow. I like that the trees have still got their coating of snow, and even some of the stones of the houses, which suggests no wind on this day and no thaw either.
The two people are perfectly placed in the composition.
I like the workshop picture too.

Snow grey cold days what they are? It seems to me tat I am dreaming.hot weather swimming ih warm emerald water is it real? It will be difficult to return to life with covid restrictions in a few days. But the memories of this dream journey will remain for ever.

This photo clearly snows how much snow you got last week. I really like the white branches of the trees on both sides and the car at right is a great addition to get a splash of red in the picture as well.

Snow is everywhere on TE today even if taken 11 years ago. Another good one for your snow collection.
Now I just had a look back through the Trawden folder - we could well rename it for you as it looks like no one else from TE had ever managed to visit.

Hello Beverley,
I don't remember when it last snowed where I live but usually the snow doesn't stay long here and the streets and sidewalks start soon looking dirty like you show us the street in your main photo.
Then there's little fun to be had.
We see a lot of snow on the roof of the cars ... but more snow has fallen in Madrid these days.
The red car adds a vivid colour on your main picture.
The closing gate in your WS cannot be missed due to its red colour.

Although I know that snow can cause a lot of nuisance, I am still jealous of this wonderfully wintry photo full of snow.
When there is a chance of snow I feel like a little boy looking out tensely if it will really going to snow. Usually the snow was disappointing and it quickly thawed away.

Hi Bev,
lovely street scene. The snow is quite abundant. We had just one day or half a day which looked like that but it quickly melted away.
I like the presence of the cars here which bring is some color to the scene. In particular the red car stands out so much.
I like how the snow persists also on the tree branches -something rare in the UK because there are too often strong winds here.

Hello Bev,
This is another nice view of the street, but this time we can see some of the brown slush. The lady on the left also doesn't look too pleased to be walking in the snow. :-) The trees look very pretty, though. I always like the look of bare tree branches right after a fresh snowfall.

I see a lot of winter photos in your gallery so the covid not keep you at home which is good news. I know that the photo is 10 years old but the red car got my attention. You got this shot early morning before snow plow clean the street.
Great winter photo where the red car and pedestrians added colors in this cloudy day.
