Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

This is Pendle is an area which is renown for its sad association with witches in the 17th century. Many have heard of the Pendle Witches!

Because of the lack of understanding in those days, anyone who performed healing activities away from the norm could be accused of witchcraft.

400 years ago a group of women, some accused by a young, impressionable girl, were taken to Lancaster and found guilty of being witches. They were later hung.

The signpost in the photograph indicates the footpath up Pendle Hill, a place still steeped in the history of long ago. Though no-one really believes in witches, the story of what happened to those unfortunate women has left a lasting legacy to the area.

I hope you have a happy day, Bev :-)
