Photographer's Note

Back to England.
This is the second picture out of the series then I together with my wife and friends at the invitation of on a danceparty in Eastbourne but for one day (a few hours).
During the lunch I took my camera and saw this wonderful image.

Eastbourne is a unique seaside resort with an amazing range of activities, sports and exciting events for you to enjoy in a fantastic setting. Everything is within easy reach with the seafront promenade virtually leading straight on to the foot of the beautiful Eastbourne Downs and Beachy Head and the town centre just a few yards walk from the centrally located Victorian Pier.

How did you find so thick and puffy clouds? Compared to the tiny elements on the shore, they give a feeling of vast power. Very nice light and emptiness. I like it.

Wat een prachtig uitzicht over de vrij kalme zee en de Engelse kustlijn. Het is een heel mooi wijds gezicht met ook een prachtige wolkenlucht en ook nog een beetje blauw. Mooi werk!

I really like this shot, because the way you have framed it is so different. The photo has a very minimalist feel to it, yet because of the texture of the clouds it doesn't feel empty. This is a really nice piece of work. Well done!

Je crois qu'il en faut beaucoup plus pour te dissuader de faire des photos.

En voyant l'aspect de la mer et le paysage, je me suis dit que ce n'est pas la Cornouaille que je connais très bien.
Je me permets de dire qu'Eastbourne fait partie du county of East Sussex, 70 km au sud de Londres.
Mais ceci ne m'empêche pas de reconnaitre que cette composition est très bien agencée par le point de vue dominant.

geen gemakkelijke foto.
Ik had hier ook graag een stukje extra land gezien, U zult U redenen daar wel voor gehad hebben denk ik. het weer is er lekker en dit geeft me wel een zomer gevoel. prachtige samenstelling verder, jammer dat zich geen bootje had gemeld als extra detail, goed fotowerk in ieder geval, prettig weekend John.

Olá John, a wonderful view over the sea, under a very angry and textured cloudy sky. Love the repetition effect of the breaking waves that seem like opened mouths ready to bite the waves with their sharp teeth :)

Hi John,
Congratulations for your... 801th photo ! actually I prefer this one far better because it is on such views that you can get the most out of the 5D, here I particularly appreciate the clouds that give it a good 3D feeling. I think you could crop a bit of water foreground to get 1/3 ground and 2/3 sky, this sky is so nice that it deserves it in my opinion.

Hallo John,
De lucht is prachtis en de wolken houden het geheel zo een beetje bij elkaar. Ze drukken bij wijze van spreken het land zowat plat. Ergens had ik, net als Jaap, graag een beetje meer land gezien om het evenwicht te herstellen.

The image is dominated by the attractive sky, where the cloud formations are well exposed!
I also notice the division of the beach but cannot quite figure out what is the purpose...

Hi John,
It's not easy to critique your photos, as you always choose to present gorgeous places or views and you make sure that everything is impeccable. Another good example of your masterful light management and compo. As usual, amazing sharpness, great sense of space, vastness, a picturesque and dramatic sky. Who said that horizons shouldn't be centred? It's hard to believe that sometimes that can be right by looking at this one.

Dag John. Werkelijk een schitterend wolkendek! Ik heb bij deze foto een heel groot gevoel van ruimte en diepte (en dat was wellicht de bedoeling vermoed ik). Ik heb de indruk dat de kust op de foto hier toch minder slachtoffer is van de wildgroei aan gebouwen die we aan onze kust hebben. Mooi plaatsje en mooi genomen.

Your good POV offers us a great panoramic sight in an image with many quality and a lot of depth.
The light and the colors are magnificent, and the setting is organized well, in that I like to see a bit of the houses of the city aside, in a good balance with the sea and the sky.

A really impressive contrast between the very cloudy sky (yet with good colors) and the very flat sea, just disturbedby these stranges fences, apparently preserving the sand of the beach from the erosion of the waves.

I love the way the low clouds, the distant headlands, and repeating lines of the shore create such a wonderful and deep feel of dimension ..

(this is very subjective) in this case that large frame feels to me like it is constricting .. weighing heavily on .. hurting .. the wonderful sense of vastness in this image ..

a very interesting ocmposition with a little bit of details of the shore and the houses to the left, leaving the vast sea and sky to the rest of the image. It gives the feel of absolute liberty. I wonder what your POV has been. Did you fly around?

moeilijk om te kiezen tussen al die wonderschone foto's van jou... Ik kies dan deze voor vandaag, vanwege het gevoel van oneindig die zij in mij oproept.

I find most interesting the contrast between the rich, complex texture and colors in the sky and the flat not-quite-monochromatic sea surface. The tension between these two elements is palpable, especially because of the thin-ness of the land that separates them.0

Hello John,

You're capturing well this seaside resort by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the calm sea with tasteful color layers and winding beach line with fence colorful buildings and peninsula in the distance. Here seemd to peaceful and tasteful place. And, thick white clouds floating in blue sky draw out a good impact.

Hi John,

After just commenting on a picture from Denis that had a similar type of sky, this one of yours caught my eye this evening. The simplicity of the scene is what makes this work so well I believe, allowing for the clouds to be the main feature. With good contrast and dimension, they almost appear 3D. In conjunction with the relatively calm waters below, the two halves of the frame work together nicely to create a "push & pull" effect. For the middle of the summer season though, I'm a bit surprised not to see any people along the beach?? Well, at least you were there to enjoy the views. :) Have a great day ahead. All the best.

The erosion of land gave a special color to the sea near its shors, and evidently built those barriers along for protective-measures.
Fine long view of the coastline, the clouds formation are a bonus to the whole.
