Photographer's Note

Early morning swimmers on a cold wet start to summer 2013. These swimmers are likely to be members of England's oldest swimming club founded in 1860.

The structure sitting on the groyne in the background is the "doughnut", a torus shape sculpture that is supposed to represent what a black hole might look like.Created by East Sussex sculptor Hamish Black, unveiled in 1998.

The 2.2 tonne bronze structure is based on a globe, the points at the north and south poles are pushed together through the sphere, forming a central hole where they meet.
