Photographer's Note

The South Lakes Wild Animal Park was established in 1994 by David Gill, an animal nutritionist, who wanted to enhance public awareness of the need for conservation. The park is a base for an international charity to fund the conservation of Sumatran tigers (see the posting by ronners).

Whereas I have always found zoos unsettling, I enjoyed visiting this park. A particular attraction is that lemurs roam freely amongst the visitors. These ring-tailed lemurs, from the dry southern part of Madagascar, live in relatively large social groups and are constantly active throughout the day.
