Photographer's Note
Set in the 'Vale of Nightshade' are the ruins of Furness Abbey. Founded in 1123 by Stephen, later King Stephen and giv3en over to the Cistercian monks in 1147. It, of course was dissolved by King Henry VIII. Made of red sand stone it is a real beauty. I think my shot may be over exposed, it was a really bright morning. Have tried to workshop it. Any suggestions.

Hi Jean
I like this old ruin and the compo you have made in your picture. Only it is a bit overexposed I think.
So I did a WS. Take a look if you like it that way.

I like the exposure as it is. Normally I would prefer not to see lots of white sky but in this instance it helps convey the feeling of an intense winter sun. You have to sacrifice something in these high contrast scene and I think you were right to keep the shadow detail behind the wall.

Hi Jean
A beautiful scene with the perfect aamount of exposure to capture the atmosphere with the morning frost.
There is still a question of sharpness which is not overly bothersome yet something which possibly needs to be addressed in the future.
Beautiful light, colour and perfect POV to present these ruins delightfully.

I shall have to visit this Abbey next time in Cumbria. The trouble is that the lure of hills is too strong! Although this was posted sometime ago I have done a quick WS if you care to look but you were working in very contrasty light so you would expect to do a fair bit of post production work on it.

Hello Jean,
that photo was difficult to be taken because of lighting. I tried not only to give a shadow but improving lighting where was missed and a little sharpness. I hope to be good for you.
Best wishes,
Athanasios.
