Photographer's Note

And now for something completely conventional: St. Ives Bay from Clodgy Point. This is the view N.E across the Bay to Godrevy Head and beyond.

It was a belting and bracing March morning, so we decided to walk a few miles on the S.W. Coast Path. Not the whole distance, I hasten to add, which is 630 miles (1,014 km), running from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to Poole Harbour in Dorset! Since the S.W. peninsula of England is quite hilly, and because the path must rise and fall with every river mouth, it is also one of the more challenging trails. The total height climbed has been calculated to be 114,931 ft (35,031 m), almost four times the height of Mount Everest. It has been voted 'Britain's Best Walking route' twice in a row by readers of the Ramblers Walk magazine, and regularly features in lists of the world's best walks. The current record for completing all 630 miles of the South West Coast Path is held by Patrick Devine-Wright, who made it in 14 days 8 hours and 2 minutes, shaving 7 hours off the previous record. I don't think I'll be beating that any time soon...
