Photographer's Note

'An apple a day keeps the doctor away.' Health advice in the UK is to eat '5-a-day', that is five pieces of fruit and/or vegetables.
This shot was taken in the Mother Orchard at Cotehele.

The Mother Orchard was planted 10 years ago, a part of a wider project to trial West Country apple varieties. There are over 300 trees in the orchard, representing 125 different varieties of predominantly local origin.

The varieties grown here have been bred over the last 250 years to survive the mild and damp climatic conditions of the south-west peninsula.

This giant hand is situated in the centre of the orchard, and gives a focal point. Normally the apple would be covered in green grass, it has suffered with our hot, dry summer.
Two more shots from Cotehele in the workshop.

Thanks for looking.
