...and here's the other side of the tree sculpture, very odd one too, look closely at his mouth and you'll see a bat emerging, what the sculptor had in his mind at the time I can't imagine!

What a contrast from one side to the other Mike the maiden does it for me, her eyes make that sculpture part of the tree, this watcher show that the artist must have a sinister side to him/her self
you could try to merge the 2 images in ps just to have some fun, well spotted full marks

I also prefer the maiden, nothing to do with your shot though. Odd little couple.
Indeed the bat in his mouth is quite weird. As for the shot itself, sharp as always, we can count the marks made by the axe. Colors are realistic.
Maybe a little to tight to the left and I miss the top of his head.
