Photographer's Note

Continuing with my theme of photographing aircraft at our local village airshow, here I present the B-17 Flying Fortress.

This particular 'plane is the Memphis Belle...the story of which lends itself to the film of the same name. The Belle was the most famous B-17 because she was the first heavy bomber in the US Eighth Air Force to complete 25 combat missions with her entire crew alive and then return to the US. At the time, this was an incredible achievement as the average life expectancy for a bomber crew was just six weeks.

I have cropped the 'plane so that you can see the name on the nose. Perhaps I should have cropped it tighter, but I would have lost the details available in the rest of the shot.

I hope the aircraft enthusiasts in TE enjoy this shot.
