Photographer's Note

The Foot Guards Battalion stationed at Windsor generally provide the Windsor Castle Guard. The Windsor battalion is at Victoria Barracks, a quarter of a mile south of the Castle. It is Victoria Barracks where troops set off from to change the guard at Windsor Castle. Victoria Barracks is currently home to the 1st Battalion, Irish Guards. On the 17 of March (St Patrick's Day) the Irish guards were presented with shamrock by the Princess Royal. This is a tradition that the Irish Guards have always had and it used to be performed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. The Battalion was presented with new Colours by Her Majesty the Queen on 6th May 2009 in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle, and the Irish Guards trooped their new Colour on the Queen's Birthday Parade on Horseguards Parade on 23th June 2009.
