Photographer's Note

Ladies of Rafalovka, a small rural town in northwest Ukraine.

Before WWII, the town actually was in Polish territory, and all the inhabitants were Jewish (so it was one of those "shtetl", the name given to those small Jewish towns in Eastern Europe).

I chose this shot for the post, not only because of the ladies, also that background behind the fence looks to me somewhat symbolic, like leading to some distant past.
