Photographer's Note

On the day before the last day of my bike trip I was in Sumska Oblast riding from the Nedrihayliv’s District, where there is a monument to mammoth, through the Lebedin’s District, where I wanted to visit natural reserve «Mikhaylisvka Tselina (virgin lands)», to Okhtirka’s District, where I was planning to have a night stop near Okhtirka’s Monastery. On this way, I liked the town of Lebedin above all. There are several interesting architectural and historic monuments in the town.

The World War II memorial, which you can see in the picture, was built in 1969 at the northwestern outskirts of Lebedin. At the top of the sculptural composition you can see a flying swan. A swan is a symbol of the town, because its initial name was Lebyazhiy Gorod (Swan’s Town).
