Photographer's Note

Now, when so many holidays are being celebrated, I would like to post several my shots of religious architecture. As the first big winter holiday that we celebrate in Ukraine is Saint Nicholas Day (Dec. 19), I am presenting the church of Nicholas the Wonderworker situated in Zhikhar, the southern part of Kharkiv city. I got there on the last day of my bike trip, when riding in the Kharkiv’s territory on the highway M-26 (Simferopol – Kharkiv) just after crossing the Udi River.

The church was built from 1890 to 1900. After the revolution of 1917 it was closed and opened several times. Now the church is completely renovated and has very nice interior paintings. Its address is Wanda Wasilewska’s Street, 11.
