Photographer's Note

Maybe rather postcardish, but never mind. This is the colonnade of the Vorontsov Palace in Odessa, Ukraine. The 19th century palace, built for the governor-general of Odessa, Prince Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov, is just to the right outside this photo. I have no photos of the palace – isn't that typically me? – but you can see it if you make a Google search for the map coordinates 46.490220, 30.738437 and make a digital tour around the area.

Everything here was designed by the Sardinian born architect Francesco Boffo, who was responsible for many of the neoclassical buildings that characterize the old part of Odessa, including the famous Potemkin Stairs located a couple of hundred metres from this place.

On the right side of this photo you can see the upper parts of some of the yellow cranes of Odessa port below this hill. Here is a larger version.

In a workshop I will show a view towards the port and the Black Sea, taken from a bridge nearby. Another workshop will show a close-up of the bridge.
