Winter in Ukraine, a photo from Kyyivska, West

Photographer's Note

This photo taken in the open air National Museum of Ukrainian Architecture and Culture in the village of Pirogovo/Pyrohovo reminded me that winters in Ukraine tend to be rather cold. What was welcome and photogenic weather conditions from my point of view in December 2010, is not the best time of the year to leave one's home that is about to be bomb.

Wspaniala zimowa scena z Ukrainy.
Ludzie zmierzajacy do kosciola to atut tego obrazu.
Znakomity kadr i kompozycja.

Hello Kasia,
This is a fine photo of a picturesque scenery covered with snow. I wonder when idyllic scenes like this will be seen in Ukraine again. People are walking calmly across the field with no fear of being shot by Russian assassins. Those were the days.

Ciao Kasia,a nice memory from this country which is experiencing a terrible tragedy. The photo shows the snow we are seeing on TV, it is very cold and not everyone managed to escape, the situation is terrible. A due tribute to Ukraine, I really like open-air museums and I hope to be able to visit it someday .. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Good photo about this country in winter, cold impression with this snowfalls, good effect with these people, hope the end of the war, quickly a dream ? ...like after strong winter, pleasant springtime.

Wonderful stuff. Good job you were quick on the draw, the textured effect gives the effect of a style of painting. A good deep winter shot of an interesting subject.

If only the world could be a better place. so awful what is going on. Peace for all the world would be a better place...

Hello Kasia, I am reminded of winter pictures by Brueghel as I look at this shot. It is the colours, the atmosphere and the small figures walking in the landscape.

Wyglada na to ze wrocilas do siebie i do swoich archiwalnych zdjec z Ukrainy.
Bardzo ciekawe miejsce a zimowa sceneria dodaje wyjatkowy dekoracyjny efekt.
Obecnosc ludzi ozywia widoczek.
Niesamowicie udalo ci sie uchwycic spadajacy snieg. Ja zwykle w takich warunkam gleboko chowam aparat...

cześc Kasiu, Nie słyszałam o tym skansenie, byłam natomiast w ukraińskim skansenie w Czerniowcach. Prześliczne zimowe zdjecie, a najbardziej podobają mi sie ci ludzie przechodzący przez zaśnieżone pole.
To, co pokazują w telewizji jest przerażające. Czy nie ma sposobu zatrzymać tego szaleńca?

Swietne zdjecie wioski ukrainskiej w sniezny zimowy dzien. Szare niebo ale zycia temu zdjeciu dodaja ludzie przechodzacy zasniezona sciezka.

Hi Kasia,
This has strong winter feeling. It is not at all obvious that this is a museum, it could be a real village with a church in the middle as well. People are well placed on that path.

Hello Kasia,
It would be a very beautiful winter scene were it not for the fact that our thoughts are currently turning to the misery of the Ukrainian people at the sight of every picture of the country.
The open-air museum shows very nice houses with the church towers in between and all in e beautiful forested area.
We hear every day about cities being bombed, but how would the people in the small villages fare?

A great composition with this snowy landscape, charming these typical houses of the rural world, one wonders if these small towns are escaping the horror of war better than the cities.
