Photographer's Note

This is the main square in Chuhuyiv, the oldest town of Kharkivska oblast. As almost all main squares in administrative centers of the former Soviet Union, it was called as Lenin’s Square and had a statue of Lenin in the middle of it. Despite the recent presidential decree about removing soviet era symbols out of central parts of Ukrainian settlements, it is still there. But many monuments of Lenin are disappearing now here, now there. I am afraid that it will be difficult to find such monuments in the near future. Thus and so, I am trying to save them as photos. There are a couple of dozens of Lenin’s monuments in my photo archive now. I could not refrain from posting one of them as the 100th TE shot.

Behind the monument there is a building of the military topographers’ school, which is going to house an art museum after its moving from the Pokrovskiy cathedral situated at the same square. In the past the square was a parade-ground, as Chuhuyiv was a military settlement.
